jazz lives: big k.r.i.t.’s cadillactica

this week big k.r.i.t. released his highly anticipated sophomore album Cadillactica, featuring contributions from Kenneth Whalum III and Mara Hruby.  given the state of hip hop, it may seem odd to feature up and coming jazz musicians on a major label (def jam) release, but big k.r.i.t.’s independence is well known.  you can still listen to the album on npr’s first listen.

k.r.i.t. previously worked with kenneth whalum iii on his 2014 single “away,” listen here, then buy it on itunes.

mara hruby released her second ep earlier this year called Archaic Rapture.  you can listen to it here, and buy that too.

Cadillactica will no doubt be on many of 2014’s best of lists, early reviews here:  nprbillboard, xxl, hip hop dx.
